Dear Supporters and Friends,

I hope this letter finds you well! You are receiving this letter because you are or have been in the past connected to our Fine Arts program at Greenville Technical Charter High School (GTCHS).

This year, the Fine Arts Department is celebrating our ten-year anniversary. As you may know, GTCHS was the first charter high school in the state, being founded in 1998, but our school only started offering fine arts courses in 2011. In those early days, the Band class had six students, and there were no drama or chorus classes offered. In the last ten years, our department has grown to having three full time teachers offering Band, Strings, Chorus, Guitar 1&2, Music Theory, Music Tech, Drama 1-4, Musical Theatre, Art 1&2 and Portfolio 1&2.  We also offer many after school clubs and performance opportunities, including musicals, art shows, concerts, a Murder Mystery evening, trips to New York and Chicago, and the International Thespian Society. Forty percent of our students participate in our arts program in some capacity. To start the next phase of our expansion, this summer we will move into our new wing of the Student Learning Center with classrooms, rehearsal space, and a black box theatre for performances.

With the (hopeful) return to normalcy and “new digs” we are looking forward to the continuing growth of the Fine Arts program into our second decade. Our school is taking a tremendous step by building the space that we have needed for so long, but the work of furnishing and outfitting the space will not be completed once the walls are up. They have heavily investing in the light and sound equipment that will make the theatre state of the art - but we still need to purchase audience seating (approximately $50,000), as well as curtains to cover the walls and improve the acoustics (approximately $29,000).

We need to raise additional money to ensure our theatre is ready for next year’s productions. Our department puts on nine (9) performances in a typical year, and we hope next year is no exception. Attached, you will find information on our “Fill the Box” campaign as well as a Benefit Concert in partnership with Tuatha Dea.  Please consider donating.

We look forward to seeing you in our new building soon!

Sincerely,

Abe Marsh
